American Library Association’s Booklist reviews
A Day in the LIfe of a Zoo!
Read their review: PreS–Gr. 2. First introduced in Adventures of Wink & Blink: A Day in the Life of a Garbage Truck (2003), Wink and Blink (played by actors in costumes) return in this energetic live action program that introduces the inner-workings of the Santa Barbara Zoo. The program starts off a bit slowly, with an introduction and jokes from the titular characters. It then picks up speed when goofy Wink and Blink escort three enthusiastic kids to a magic theater where they watch short films about zoo life. The most intriguing segment shows how zookeepers prepare food for the hungry residents. Another interesting sequence discusses the staff veterinarian’s role. The DVD encourages audience participation by asking viewers to shout out the names of various animals that appear on screen. Colorful computer effects enhance the action, and in-your-face animal footage will delight youngsters. This fast-paced, joyful presentation captures the working environment of a zoo. —Brian Wilson
